Ref Works

Very shortly the University Libraries will create a prominent link to RefWorks on its pages. Until then you can use the following link:

Write'N'Cite

To use Write'N'Cite from off-campus:

For PCs

From the Start Menu - select Programs - then select RefWorks.
Click on the WNC Proxy Configuration Utility. Copy the following and paste it into the URL box: http://jerome.stjohns.edu:81/login?url=https://www.refworks.com/Refworks/?WNC=true Then click OK.

You need do this only once and Write'N'Cite should work off-campus.

For Macs

Go to File then Write-N-Cite then Preference then Proxy.
Copy the following and paste it into the URL box: http://jerome.stjohns.edu:81/login?url=https://www.refworks.com/Refworks/?WNC=true Then click OK.

You need do this only once and Write'N'Cite should work off-campus.

The purpose of this is to direct you to the St. John's University proxy server to estabish your identify as a St. John's associate. You will then be directed to a log-in screen for Write'N'Cite at which you will use the username and password you have established for RefWorks. This you will need to do each time you use Write'N'Cite from off-campus.

 

Revising page numbers

The default page number in a parenthetical note is the first page number of an article. In some cases you may want to modify the parenthetial note to include a specific page number for the information cited. To do this you need to include a "switch" - in this case the switch is   /s. The example below shows the change from the default to   p23

This is the original cite: {{289 Joinson,Adam N. 2007; }}
This is the revised cite: {{289 Joinson,Adam N. 2007 /sp23; }}

Note that the switch is placed before the semi-colon.
