Opened: 1881 - 1886 The first sub-offices were based on their geographic location in the City. In 1886 three additional post offices were added

North - became Carleton Street
East - became Queen Street East
West - became Bathurst Street

The first marks from the directional offices - intaglio duplexes N E and W in the canceller not in the dater hub are believed to be unofficial duplex. Stulberg suggests that the itaglio hammers were created until the offical duplex cancellers arrived. The only dates seen for the itaglio marks are 1881.

The following hammers are proof strikes of what appear to be CDS cancels. However, they have not been seen on cover. At first I suspected these may have been the dater portion of duplex hammers as illustrated above. On closer examination I noted that the proof strikes have dotes rather than dashes separating the location from BRANCH OFFICE. So - do these CDS cancels exist on cover?
